Piper

Her parents are tiptoeing around the problem, but Piper’s all too aware she’s the biggest girl in her Highland Dance class.  Just trying to purchase a Highland Dance jacket turned into a wrenching ordeal when the store clerk bluntly told her he wasn’t sure they could make one in her size.

Piper’s entire family has weight issues. Her mom, Rae, is obese, as is her dad, Mark, and her 16-year-old brother Logan. This is a family with huge appetites, who consistently make poor food choices. Besides eating massive portions at mealtimes, Rae is convinced that Piper sneaks extra food, but doesn’t want to confront her on it. Both parents are scared of driving Piper away if they mention her size.

Rae admits dieting makes her feel “deprived” and Mark accuses his wife of lying to herself about food. In fact, they are all in denial about their food habits, thinking Piper’s the only one with a serious problem. Rae resents any type of dieting and her blunt, hurtful comments often undermine Piper’s confidence. Will Rae change her ways and create the supportive environment Piper needs to succeed?
