Monaca

Monaca’s life is spent in front of the TV clocking up over 60 hours of viewing a week. She does little physical activity and eats junk. Her mother, Tracy, is appalled by her daughter’s “laziness” and her weight gain. A former athlete, Tracy can’t understand why Monaca is not more like she was as a kid.  But the more Tracy nags at Monaca, the more defensive and frustrated Monaca becomes.

While Tracy genuinely wants the best for her daughter she models all of the wrong things and then nags and picks at Monaca’s “faults”. The bickering between mother and daughter has reached a critical point.  Tracy knows that she is being hypocritical – relentlessly harping on her daughter about food and exercise while she eats poorly and does little.  Monaca is constantly on the defensive, feeling totally alienated from her mother most of the time. Tracy openly admits favouring her 3-year-old son, Brock, and Monaca feels left out and jealous of the attention lavished on her brother.  Tracy will need to set a better example and start trying to bond with her daughter if she wants Monaca to be happier and healthier.
