Jade

Jade was once an outgoing girl with an active social life, but she was traumatized by an abusive relationship. She became depressed and self-conscious and turned to food for comfort.  As the weight piled on, Jade’s confidence and self-esteem dwindled. Unable to even zip up her riding boots, she has given up her greatest passion: horseback riding.

Janine wants desperately to be a good role model for her daughter but is acutely aware that she is failing.  She buys ice cream and treats to comfort Jade and feels terribly guilty over her daughter’s plight. Janine has a hard time saying "no" to Jade, while Jade has a hard time saying no to anything.  Janine has always been more of a friend to Jade than a parent and as a result, Jade is not accustomed to limits or boundaries.

In order to move forward into the next phase of their lives they will need to make some drastic changes. Jade and Janine are at a turning point in their lives.  17-year-old Jade is on the brink of womanhood. Overweight, depressed and self-conscious, she doesn’t feel prepared to face life as an adult.  They will both have to make some big changes to their lifestyle and their relationship if they are going to succeed on their journey.
