For Analisa, being overweight is debilitating in many different ways. Her mobility is limited due to her cerebral palsy: she doesn’t have full use of her right hand or foot, and just getting around the house is exhausting. If she manages to shed some of her 232 pounds, she may be able to lessen the frequency of the nightly epileptic seizures that leaved her scared to death.

Her mother Leila is prone to eating cookies for breakfast and just stepping on a scale makes her crave chocolate. Step-dad, Brian, is vegetarian due to his high cholesterol, but the family resists his attempts to impose his healthy diet on them.  9-year-old Emma-Kate is worried her mom is going to get so big she’ll “explode”.

Analisa is determined to provide the inspiration for the family’s transformation as she strives for independence and self-confidence. The family’s 24KM “Bike to the Border” goal is a terrifying prospect for Emma-Kate and a huge challenge for Analisa. For this family to get to the starting line – let alone the finish line – is going to take some hard work and an unprecedented force of will.
