Kaitlyn
Kaitlyn, her older sister Allisa and their mom Monique are still reeling from the death of their father and husband Gord less than a year ago. During his illness, regular mealtimes and healthy cooking took a back seat and these bad habits persisted even after his death.
With Gord gone, the family has found solace in fatty, sugary and processed foods leaving them overweight and disconnected from one another. They admit they are emotional eaters and feel guilty knowing that Gord would disapprove of them abandoning their health as they grieve him.
As if dealing with unresolved grief were not enough of a burden for a 16-year-old, now Kaitlyn’s extra weight is causing her to be self-conscious and self-disparaging. She covers up obsessively and creates excuses to sit on the sidelines during gym class. Instead of healing, she’s wounding herself in many new ways.
Kaitlyn yearns to feel young and pretty, but sees herself as the fat, ugly girl. Monique knows her daughters are in pain and worries that it is causing them to disengage from life.
