Alex

Alex is the youngest member of a Russian-Jewish family that has always socialized with food. Weekly Shabbat dinners are lovingly loaded with traditional dishes heavy in starches, butter and sauces. His mom, Milena, frequently hosts parties that are built around yummy treats for the guests — which means abundant high-calorie leftovers for the family. Heaping plates and extra helpings are the norm.

By the time older brother David reached puberty, everyone in the family was overweight. But four years ago David, motivated by a desire to attract girls, started self-regulating his food and working out. He’s now buff, while younger brother Alex who continued to eat as his parents do, has simply gotten heavier. Alex is tired of being compared to his thin and fit older brother. It’s time to follow in his footsteps.

Alex was diagnosed with high cholesterol before he even hit his teens – this shocked his family… but not enough to completely change their lifestyle.  As Alex’s cholesterol numbers have continued to climb so have his fears of being leveled by a heart attack.

Milena and Adam know that the only way to save their son is to break the cycle of unhealthy eating habits that have been passed through their families from generation to generation. It is a monumental change and their son’s life hangs in the balance.
