Welcome to the National Challenge

We'd like to use today's blog to congratulate everyone on signing up for the National Challenge, and taking the first steps towards permanently changing their lives for the better.parts Hali1

The National Challenge Events

The events that we held across Canada were amazing. There were 400 people at the Halifax event, and everyone was fantastic even though they had to wait awhile to get processed due to the overwhelming turnout.

We even had one participant come all the way from Newfoundland to Halifax to attend an event - Marie. You can see an interview with Marie at the event by clicking here.

Afterwards, Marie emailed to tell us what a great time she'd had, and how her day had just got better and better:

"We went to Fred's restaurant and salon this afternoon. I was fortunate enough that Fred was able to get me in for a haircut and style, and threw in the makeup consultation - I feel like I have already won with such an amazing makeover! It was such a great experience. What a great way to start such a huge transformation for me! I fear that the day may have been a dream and it is soon time to wake up!"

We can see that over 3900 Challenge Participants have committed to losing 113346 pounds, and those people are already starting and joining groups, hence making the support connections that will really help them to succeed on their journeys.

If you didn't sign up over the weekend, you can sign up to the site and follow the 26 Week Plan anytime, you just won’t be eligible for prizes.

What next?

Now that you've registered, you will be prompted to enter your weekly weight each Monday and the content will refresh on that day, giving the next step in the 26 Week Guide to follow.

Keep checking the blog everyday, as we will keep giving you more useful information, tips and advice on a daily basis.

Teething pains...

Over the weekend we did discover glitches on the site, and appreciated everyone's patience while we sorted them out. Launching a site as big and complex as this will always have some issues arise once everyone starts logging in, but we hope most things are now fixed.

The majority of issues came about when people were using older versions of Internet Explorer, so we advise that all participants either upgrade their browser to Internet Explorer 8, or download Firefox, in order to get the very best from XWeighted.com.

Some people raised privacy concerns, so we'd like to explain what the various stages of privacy mean for your profile:

If you have a Public Profile, all registered community members will have access to EVERYTHING INCLUDING your photos, weight, measurements as well as the ability to read your blog, see what groups you have joined, and view your My X-Weighted Episode.

If you choose Limited Profile then all registered community members will have access to your photos, weight, measurements.   Your blog and your My X-Weighted Episode are not shown to other community members, but your profile is viewable by other members.

If you choose Private Profile then your profile is completely hidden and other members of the community will not be able to view your profile. All they can see is your username.

Public Profile is the automatic setting for your account.  You can change it in the Account Settings.

In some groups, people were unable to make comments - this is something we can easily fix if you email us the name of the group affected.

If anything on the site isn't working, please contact us and let us know. As with any new website, there are always going to be a few teething problems that we won't know about until everyone starts using it.

If you wish to completely delete your account, you need to email us a request and we will do it for you.  The email address is x-weighted@anaid.com.

Some people have asked how they can find friends that are also using the site. You'll need to know your friend's username, which you'll need to enter in the search box in the top right hand corner of the screen.

You'll find lots more answers in our FAQ section.

Good luck on your journey!

I really wasn't sure I'd make it through the Fitness Challenge! The lay down/stand up part was the hardest! But that was nothing compared to the motivation I had to find when I got home, away from all the positive energy Saturday at the Y. Sunday morning I lay in bed thinking 'now's the time...if I'm going to start this thing I have to start now'. Well, I'm happy to say the motivation did come, I got out of bed and did my first 2.5k walk in a LONG time. I felt great! So.... Monday I did the same thing, and Tuesday it got a little easier to get out of bed and head outside. Today was even easier! Who knew? haha. I'm proud to say I'm on my way. The site is fantastic for helping me out in the 'motivation' department - where I need it most!

Getting the right frame of mind

Lose posted on Welcome to the National Challenge @ 8:17am - Jan 12, 2010

Fear, definitely a four-letter word. When it comes to weight-loss, it is a deal-breaker. This is where i have lost the battle in the past, fear creeps in and tells you: you cant really do it, noone really loses that much, the results are slow to come so it isnt working, you will die of you eat less, you will die if you opt for more veges and fruit, it is ok to break you rules for a day or two to impress some colleague at a function, oh now that you have broken your rules to impress some colleagues, you have already failed and you might as well stop now, you will never make it...If we can manage to shut down that voice of fear, there is no limit to what we can accomplish - even right now.

Welcome everyone!

Halifax Session

nperry posted on Welcome to the National Challenge @ 2:44pm - Jan 11, 2010

I have to admit I went to the Halifax session - found the event to be very disorganized. I watched a bit of the fitness test, would have been there for hours waiting - then went to get weighed etc. and found they had one person doing this part. They just were not prepared for the number of people that showed up. I decided that if I was going to do this, having the fitness test at the Y or getting measured was not the first step. The first step was making the decision to DO IT. I went home, registered, did my own measurements etc. This has to come from within us. I have been to the gym twice and am tracking my eating. We can do this! The site is easy to use and helpful. Good Luck All!

To worklife balance...

I am taking everything as a sign: Went to X-Weighted Saturday (won the ticket)...then my number was drawn and won a 6 month gym membership....IF THAT ISN"T A KICK in the pants then what is!

Today I started to change this downhill to an uphill challenge...

I have always put work or family first but forgot about me somewhere...

Day 1
- Told boss we had to find a solution to reducing my hours from 80+ to normal week
- Ran/walked 5miles (something I use to do daily in 50 min...now is taking 66min!) so an additional goal...reduce time
- I am motivated and looking to sharing this journey with everyone!

Have a wonderful week!

you can do it!

Lose posted on Welcome to the National Challenge @ 8:21am - Jan 12, 2010

talking to the boss about work hours is a HUGE step, it means you have decided that your health matters more than the overtime paycheck. You have done something that most people have a hard time doing. Good for you.
Dont stop believing.

happy to be part of this adventure
