Twenty 100 Calorie (or Less) Snacks

There are tons of prepackaged 100 calorie snacks available now - such as mini chocolate bars and bags of chips etc. These may seem like a good idea, but you are still effectively just putting 100 calories of refined flour and sugar in to your body. Instead, make up your own 100 calorie snack packs and ensure you have a supply of them in your fridge ready to grab and go.

1) Half a cup of edamame (shelled)

These baby soy beans are high in protein and contain Omega-3 fatty acids. They are a super healthy snack that you should be able to find in the frozen food aisle at your local grocery store.

2) 3 cups air popped popcorn

Skip the butter and salt, but try sprinkling with 2 tbsp of nutritional yeast, which tastes like cheese and will add only 20 calories to this filling snack.

3) Half a cantaloupe

This fruit is full of vitamins A and C, and super low in calories.

4) Hard-boiled egg

Holding just 78 calories but full of protein, boiled eggs are a great snack. Try boiling up a couple at a time and keeping them in the fridge so that they are ready when you get hungry. (To mix things up, you could also scramble an egg with a splash of skimmed milk.)

5) Cottage cheese

A 100g serving of cottage cheese has just 116 calories. Spread it over two crispbreads and you’ll still not break 200 calories.

6) Bowl of oatmeal

Make your oatmeal with water instead of milk, throw in some berries and sprinkle with cinnamon and you’ve got a super filling low calorie snack.

7)  Baby cut carrots Bag of carrots

You can eat about 20 baby cut carrots at a time and not break a  100 calories, so munch on these often.

8) Half a chicken breast

Given the differing size of chicken breasts, these may go a little over 100 calories, but is a great protein packed snack.

9) A cup of grapes

As an alternative sweet treat, you can freeze the grapes (a very popular summer snack for the kids).

10) Tuna and celery

Half a cup of water-packed tuna with a stick of celery is a great high-protein snack that will keep you full longer. Try seasoning the tuna with a little balsamic vinegar (but be sure to skip the mayo).

11) A banana

This potassium packed highly portable snack is a dieters favourite.

12) One cup unsweetened apple sauce

Sprinkle with cinnamon for a little extra oomph, plus this spice is being shown to have increasing numbers of health benefits (such as lowering cholesterol).

13) Half a cup of strawberries and half a cup of plain yogurt

A sweet treat that is full of vitamins and packs a protein punch. Go for regular yoghurt and avoid the richer varieties to avoid increasing calorie count.

14) 12 raw almonds

These nuts are super high in calcium and protein, and 90% of the fat in them is unsaturated. Almonds are a super snack food worth incorporating in to your healthy diet.

15) A veggie sausage patty or veggie burger

Many are under 100 calories, but check the packaging to be sure. Easy to throw in the microwave then serve with a bit of salsa and lettuce.

16) Three apricots

Fruit really is the perfect on the go snack and sweet apricots are a yummy low cal treat.

17) Half a small avocado

Creamy and delicious, avocados contain oleic acid, which is a monounsaturated fat that is believed to lower cholesterol (according to several recent studies).

18) Cucumber sticks and two tbsp of hummus

Seeing as how cucumber has very few calories (around 14 per cup) you could eat as much as you desired, dipping it in to the creamy hummus for taste.Apples

19) An apple

There are 80 calories in an apple, so throw one in your bag for the perfect on-the-go snack.

20) A cup of raw broccoli

This actually only contains 30 calories, so go crazy and eat as much broccoli as you can manage.

They all sound so delicious..!! (except the Almonds - which I love but I can't have nuts - due to a digest problem... ) but otherwise - there are still tons to choose from.
