Sweat, Curses and Tears: Paul's Top X-Weighted Scenes

Through four seasons of X-Weighted, Paul Plakas has been made proud, made people cry and been afraid he was going to get hit. Here are some of Paul’s favourite moments from the show:

The poker game at Casey’s place

A lot of people who watched that episode thought that I was very bad at poker because I was on the bike all the time (in each hand the first person to throw in their cards had to ride the bike as punishment). But, those guys were so scared of having to ride the bike that they played the worst hands just so they could stay in the game. I’m actually a really good poker player! (Click here to see the clip.)

Completing Sharla’s goal

Sharla cycling towards her goalI was part of the selection process for season two, and when I met Sharla I knew that her story would make a really inspiring episode of X-Weighted. One of the biggest moments in the show for me was when she completed her goal (riding her bike from Vernon to Kelowna while pulling her daughter). As we were riding into Kelowna, we went by her daughter's school and all of the kids were out there with signs cheering her on. That was a really cool moment. (Check it out here.)

Mike’s huge loss

When Mike, in season three, stepped on the scale for the final weigh-in, I was just so happy for him. He lost the most weight anybody has ever lost on the show, 113 pounds. He was a big guy but he did everything really well consistently for six months to lose the weight. (Click here to see clip.)

Angela and Nicolle on the stairs

I always get the most comments about the scene on the stairs with Angela and Nicolle. I’d been telling them not to do the elliptical trainer because it wouldn’t make them fit and they should do the stair climber, but they didn’t listen so they really suffered on those stairs. They were swearing at me and telling me to be quiet, then I started singing an obnoxious song that drove them nuts. That was probably the most popular scene ever. They were mad, they cried, it was hilarious. (Click here to watch.)

Tammy’s running blow-up

I’d given Tammy a workout to prepare her for the thirteen mile run to the site where her brother died in a car accident. The night before the run, I found out that the longest she had ever ran in six months was for an hour. So she never did the training required. During the run she blamed me for her not training properly, and I lost my mind, went mad and swore at her. I was probably the most mad I’ve ever been at anybody on X-Weighted. We didn’t talk for a half hour on the highway with the crew filming us and waiting for something to happen. We weren’t talking at all until finally she said she was sorry, I said I was sorry, we hugged it out and we were all good. (Click here to wach this clip.)

Melanie at the farm

Melanie said I’d made the workout too hard for her and I wasn’t taking her smoking into consideration. I said "You are going to do it no matter what, because if you aren’t then you’re going to be a loser for the rest of your life." She lost her mind, started swearing at me, and that moment was the first time that I actually thought a participant was going to punch me in the face. She didn’t hit me, but I thought she was going to, I was getting ready for it! Melanie was an in-your-face kind of person and I really like participants that fight back a little bit.
