Question of the Week
May 18, 2010
Every Sunday, we'll be asking you a question about one aspect of your journey. We hope that when answering this question (by replying to the blog post) not only will it get you thinking, but your answers may provide inspiration for other challenge participants.
Today, instead of Sunday (for some reaon the site ate Sunday's question!) we'd like to ask....
If you responsible for preparing meals for yourself or your family, how do you feel about that process? (Frustrated? Resentful? Bored?) Why?

I'm not all that keen on
I'm not all that keen on cooking, so when I do, and see how easy it is, and how good the food tastes, I wonder at my hesitation at making inroads into the kitchen. Looking forward to a new fresh attitude to spending fun time in the kitchen.
long practice
I've been cooking meals for the fam for so long it's second nature, like "It's noon, I'd better feed everyone." Two important things here - when people are fed they are easier to get along with, and having a freezer and a microwave make it easier than it used to be. I don't usually resent cooking, but sometimes I'm so busy that I lose track of time or I'm not here to make meals. Then I wish someone else (!!!!) would just do it. I don't plan meals too far ahead, but i do try to make sure there's food that can be just taken out and cooked, like chops or fillets and lots of home-frozen or fresh fruit and vegetables, or leftover home-made casseroles, soup, or pizza. There are some cans in the cupboard, but not a lot. We rarely eat out.
Like to have the control
I like cooking simple meals because I have control of the ingredients. When I go to places where I know the meal was prepared with a similar philosophy, I am glad that I do not need to cook.
I love cooking!
Monday through Friday, I do all of the cooking for the family. I love experimenting with different foods and spices and couldn't be happier. On the weekends though I have little control over what we eat. My dad is only home on weekends and is an extremely picky eater. He basically only likes hamburger and tomato soup. He has deadedned taste buds from smoking all his life, so food is a challenge for our family when he is home. My family takes a huge offence if you make something separate from what they make too, so I'm stuck with it. But, I'm moving out in August with my son, so then I"ll have complete control.
A lot of preparation time but worth it!
Since I started this challenge, I try to loosely plan the meals ahead for the next week, including my family's brown bag lunches. I make a list of all of the fresh meat and veggies that we need and usually go to the grocery store myself so I can take my time and make sure I am making the best food choices. So since we are eating healthier and saving money by not eating out or grabbing takeout through the week, I am enjoying this process! Once we have all of the supplies, I actually prepare meals about half the time, my husband likes to cook too so we are doing really well with this challenge!
i'm in control
i love making dinner for my family because i can make a meal that's good for us and tastes delish!! i love being able to make the good choices for my family and enjoying our yummy meal together.
I always enjoy cooking at the
I always enjoy cooking at the beginning of a new season - BBQ season I have tried and true recipes for that and then too cold for BBQ I have some tried and true recipes but....as the season goes on I do get in a bit of a rut. Mostly too lazy to look at or try new recipes.
For our health as well as pocket book we try to eat out only once a week for a treat. I generally like to eat out on Fridays but if we know we will be away from home on Sat or Sun I make sure to cook on the Fri and use my treat day on one of the other weekend days! We don't eat out at lunch hour ..hubby and I live close to work and share rides so we come home for lunch daily and we always eat breakfast at home. So for healthy eating...I feel we are doing a lot better than prior to this challenge.
I love it!
Well speaking as a former 30 year old bachelorette, I only ever had to worry about cooking for myself. Now that I share my life with someone I look so forward to creating new and healthy dishes......I love trying new recipes or just making some up as I go and seeing his reaction! I have learned that I can make healthy meals that taste great and aren't as hard as I thought. I think back to my single days and the prepared, processed, packaged crap I used to consume just because I used the excuse it was too hard to cook for one......I can't believe I let myself believe that for so long. It is actually so much easier to just make something from fresh ingredients. I truly enjoy cooking dinner every night for us both, as well as packing our lunches daily. I am proud to know that my boyfriend is living a healthier and happier life now that I am in it.
