Fun Fitness Get-togethers for Friends
Buddying up with people that share your goal of getting fit is a great way to stay motivated on your journey. There are all kinds of ways that you can workout together, but here are 4 ideas for how to bring more fun into the equation:
1) Take a class together. Getting a group of girlfriends together to take a dance or fitness class is a great way to spend an evening. You will be able to support each other in learning a new activity, but you also have a great laugh at each other's expense (and your own) when you don't quite get it right. There are all manner of fun classes that you could take, from belly dancing to burlesque to pole dancing, or even ballroom dancing. Talk about the things that you've always wanted to try and take turns to pick a class for you to take.
2) Go skating. Many of us haven't hit the rinks since our school days, whether you are using ice-skates or roller-skates, it is a fantastic way to burn calories and have fun with your friends. Many rinks offer disco skating at the weekends, where you can move along to the latest tunes and enjoy light shows. So dust off your skates (or rent some there), head down to the local rink and enjoy a nostalgic night of calorie burning fun.
3) Do a charitable fitness event. There are many different organized walks, or races of one kind or another, that help raise money for various charities. Getting a team together to raise money for breast cancer or what ever other charity you and your friends want to support, is a great motivator for getting in shape. You get to help others while you are helping yourself to get fit.
4) Join or start a sports team. Switch girls night from martinis and appetizers to dodgeball or soccer instead. In many cities and towns across Canada, there are adult recreational leagues offering all kinds of sports that you can join in with. You could follow-up on the sports that you were good at in high school, or try something completely new (ultimate Frisbee is very popular these days). Many of these leagues allow you to create your own team, so if you have enough of your friends interested you can all play together.

working out with friends
Working out with friends always pushes me to do better and work harder. I am a little competitive but so are my friends so it ends up being a lot of fun in the end.
Working out With Friends
A group of my girlfriends and I go either Cross country Skiing, or Snow Shoeing on the weekend in the winter and in the Spring & Summer months we will usually get out for a hike or a walk. It's a great time and we REALLY enjoy getting together and exercising, instead of eating!
We are planning on starting our own running club this Spring! Looking forward to it!

Pilates
This is a great class for getting together with people dedicated to a long term growth through the development of the exercises. It is a fantastic stretch after weight bearing activites and kept muscles strong when an injury kept me from doing the weight bearing type.
speed skating
i am DYING to try this sport .. ok i know i wont look like those olympians .. but omg!! it just seems soooo unbelievable graceful and strong to me.
i even love the chaos of the short track version - but am just far too chicken to ever try that out.
wonder if the richmond oval will be offering beginner programs after the o-games???
ZUMBA!
Aerobic Latin Dance, it's fabulous fun with some friends, or not as you will meet new ones there, a great workout. It makes you focus as there are moves of dance like salsa, etc. so not only is your heart getting a workout so is your mind. Our instructor is from Columbia and she is great. Fantastic music. I get there 2 nights a week for 1 full hour at my local community gym. Some nights there are upwards of 100 people in class. Live it, Love it, ZUMBA!!
Dodgeball
I play dodgeball once a week with my friends- and I love it! It's a great way to spend time with friends while being active.
Skating
I went skating for the first time since I was 15-16. I loved it.
Working out with Friends
In the village where I live in rural N.S. a group of women have been exercising together 3 times a week. We try to change it up a bit for variety.Sometimes we get talking and catching up so that our 2mile tape is over before you know it.Also there is a a dedicated group of outdoor walkers. We walk also 3 times a week. I enjoy both groups but decided to join a new class to change it up more .I went to a Yoga class in a neighboring community. It really gave me a boost. I will definetly do it again. A friend has been after me to go swimming .I think I should try it also. Maybe I can get over this plateau that I've hit lately.
