Fred Connors Talks About the Importance of "Me Time"
Whenever we are stressed out, we tend to lose focus on whatever we are working towards. We need to set time aside for ourselves for several reasons: Firstly, to think about what it is that you have accomplished and why it is that you are on whatever journey you're on in the first place. Secondly, to reward ourselves for getting to where we are so far in that journey.
Having me time enables you to tell yourself that you really matter. And whether it's sitting alone in a quiet room reading a book, treating yourself to a movie or going on a little bit of a shopping trip, you need to set time aside for yourself. And when I say setting time aside for yourself, it's often best spent by yourself - that way you can reflect on how you are feeling about yourself and where it is you are going. In this alone time, you need to consider:
- Whether or not you think you are successful in your pursuits.
- Whether or not you are really pushing yourself as hard as you need to.
- Whether or not you are committed 100% to the course that you have set for yourself.
We get so caught up in the chaos of our lives that it is really easy to no longer focus on the goals and challenges that we have set for ourselves. When we put time aside for ourselves to reflect on where we are, it gives us better perspective and focus.
I have seen a lot of participants sabotage themselves half way through their journey. They start to do this when they are fearful that they are not going to be successful, by becoming so busy with other things that they no longer have time to focus on their weight-loss journey.
When you are too busy to care about the things that you cared about when you started to feel good about yourself, then you may as well just give up because no one is going to want to be around you if you can't stand to be around yourself.
People need to set aside a little bit of time every day to remind themselves that they matter. When you don't do that, you are communicating to people out there that you really don't think that you matter.
Everyone, no matter how crazy their life seems can carve out a little bit of time for themselves somewhere in their day.
We get so caught up in thinking that our lives are so challenging, we say "when is the insanity going to end, my life is just so challenging!" But if you do set time aside to sit down and reflect on the things that you have in your life to be thankful for, it's amazing how life becomes a lot more enjoyable.
The more we start thinking about how much we actually enjoy our lives, the more we want to take time to think about the things that we do have to be grateful for.
Most people look at all of the things they have to do in a six-month weight loss journey as obstacles instead of looking at them as opportunities.
As we face challenges in life, we shouldn't shut down, or go into a big black hole. What we should do is look at these challenges and figure out what it is we can do to learn something from them and move on.
You need me time to allow yourself to be more focused. Allowing chaos to take over is the best way of sabotaging yourself.

Me First
I have gotten off track by putting everybody first, I have learned that I have to come first. I will carve out some me time everyday to do stuff I want and need to do, in the long run it will benefit me and others in my life.
Breakfast
One of the important me time is that for breakfast and it takes planning to make sure that it fits. Then there is taking time at lunch to get away from work. Focussing on the goal helps.
Thanks Fred!
That's exactly what is happening to me. I was so busy for a couple of weeks that I'm getting off track. It sure doesn't take long to fall out of the new routine I've built for myself.
I can't tell you the difference in the way it makes me feel. In just a couple of weeks I went from feeling stronger, lighter and more energetic to tired, sluggish, and unmotivated. Sooooo after reading this articleI will take some me time this weekend to refocus.
Thanks again.
I am going to go for a
I am going to go for a couples massage when i have lost a total of 40 pounds :) I will try to keep little goals also for every ten pounds i lose, like going to the city, taking a weekend off to go skiing with my husband, stuff that i enjoy doing but dont get to do often. It keeps me motivated and on track and i get something nice out of it :)
It is hard...
.... as a mom not to feel guilty about taking time for ourselves, but it really is vital.
me time
I think I need to start meditating again. Such a powerful, me time, down time, regroup kind of experience.
Challenges
I would find it challenging to put myself into a physical space in which I could get into the meditative state (if I knew how to do it). I think that I do something similar but meditation is no doubt an art.
Me Time
It is good to hear especially for someone that when I take me time I feel guilty. I am a homeschooling mom of 4 and sometimes me time is hard but I am trying to improve that. My workout is sometimes all the me time I can get.
me time
thanks Fred, we do seem to do things for others but never for ourselves...I deserve it just as much as the ones I do things for
me time
I am just about to go have a massage in about a hour , something I have not done for a long time. Friday after a long busy week I can not wait.
me time
It’s nice to be reminded that it good for me to have some time to myself, sometimes I get so caught up in life that I feel that if I do take time for myself that I am being selfish but it is really just making sure that I can stay motivated to reach my goals that well make mine and my family’s life better
Thanks for the reminder. I
Thanks for the reminder. I know I tend to sabotage myself...in fact I have started falling back on old habits. I will take some time out this weekend to reflect and refocus on my goals. You are right....it is an opportunity not an obstacle.
Time management
It is often a challenge to properly fill in a larger space of time than a smaller one. Time floes and what you wanted to get done is not done.
