Fred Connors Answers Your Questions

FredddddDo you think that when women get older they need to cut their hair short?

I most definitely do not. Women want to feel sexy at every age, and you do not lose the right to feel sexy just because you have gone through menopause. Sexy is possible at any age and there are a lot of beautiful women over the age of 50 that have longer sexy hair, which helps define who they are. When you look at some of the sexiest older women in the world, such as Goldie Hawn,  Sophia Lauren,  Catherine Deneuve and Demi Moore, what do they have that helps define their sex appeal: hair.

What do you recommend for people that have really fine hair?

Certainly you need to use some volumizing products, of which there are a lot on the market nowadays. Taking a Biotin supplement is essential for creating a fuller head of hair (Biotin is vitamin H, which is part of the B family of vitamins) because it increases the rate at which hair grows as well as the fullness of your hair, plus it helps give you great skin and nails. We sell a supplement here that is phenomenal, and I started to take it as soon as I noticed my hair receding and thinning 10 years ago.

How long is the wait list to get a haircut with you?

It is typically up to two months, though you might get in earlier if there is a cancellation.

Do you get many people come to you who are fans of X-Weighted and want the whole reveal experience?

One of the things that is challenging for me is that people come here wanting the whole Fred experience, and they’ve booked an appointment because they love seeing me on the show, and then what happens is in 45 minutes they think that I’m going to be able to change their lives, redefine them sexually, redo their wardrobe, give them a haircut, make them feel great about themselves and them walk out here feel like completely different people. That doesn’t happen for $65 and haircut!

I think that people forget that I work with people on the show for 6 months. I get to know the participants personally and a lot of them very intimately. I help them overcome obstacles that they face outside of the show and I help them develop strategies so they can become more successful in their life. I’m a sounding board and I become a friend, I don’t just go in and raid their closets, give them a few simple suggestions and give them a makeover and that’s it. I get to know these people, I get to understand and care about them.

However, I think it’s great that I can give people that come to my salon a haircut, tell them that they need to buy a new bra and talk about necklines that would great on them. I like that I can put a little bit of bronzer and lip gloss on them and make them feel a bit more special than they would if they just walked into a neighborhood hair salon and got a $40 haircut. But I think that there is a certain expectation because of how people see me on the show, that they are going to walk in here and get treated the exact same way.

Saying that, I don’t just cut their hair and tell them that they’re pretty, if they ask me advice I offered them all the expertise and resources that I have to give them. At my salon, we are really invested in people’s lives here, there’s a real sense of community. I play matchmaker, I help you with housing or employment and when people come here they feel like they are part of something. We really want people to feel special by elevating an ordinary everyday experience to the extraordinary. You can go anywhere and get a haircut, we want you to get come here and have an experience. Is it going to be the same experience you get as a participant on X-Weighted? Absolutely not. It is still going to be a valuable experience? Absolutely. We want every single person that comes through our doors, whether they are a fan of the show or not, to be glad that they did.

This is a wonderful segment. I have just reached my goal (last Saturday) and a month ago I decided to treat myself to an appointment with Fred on the final weigh-in day on July 10th.

I know it is more than a "regular haircut" but I also know that he is not going to change my life in an hour! I've already done that but it has taken me years, with the final primping and tweaking over the last 6 months and last 10 lbs.

I have made this appointment because I want his advise and opinion regarding length, shape, etc. I don't expect his to wave a magic wand and fix everything. I have a friend who is a hair stylist and she has a sign at her station that says "We're hair stylists, not magicians!"

Looking forward to my appointment with Fred. I believe it is the icing on the cake for the X-Weighted Challenge. Thank you for this opportunity!

You go girl!
