Monaca and TracyOn last night's X-Weighted: Families episode, we saw how Monaca was feeling disconnected from her mom and the affect of the gaping emotional chasm between them. Monaca felt neglected, like her mom was always critical when they did interact, and that she favoured her 3 year old brother, Brock, over her.

Here we are at episode 8 of this 4th season of X-Weighted: Families. This week we introduce you to Monaca, a grade 6 student who admits that she lives to watch TV and does little physical activity. Monaca feels very self-conscious about her body and is battling issues with her mom that aren't helping matters at all.

Healthy Slow-cooker Meals that your Family will Love

Using a slow-cooker is a easy way to prepare healthy meals. The beauty of using a slow-cooker is that you can throw the ingredients in the pot before heading off to work, and when you get home there's a hearty meal waiting for you. Here are some great recipes that will keep the whole family well-fed and happy.

Chickpea and couscous stuffed peppers

Ingredients:

4 large bell peppers

1 can chick peas

1 cup crumbled feta

1/2 cup couscous

4 thinly sliced scallions, white and green parts separated

It is hard to believe that we are already more than halfway through this 4th season of X-Weighted: Families. This week, in episode 7, we meet Leanne - a socially isolated 15 year old who is desperate to change. There are many obstacles standing in the way of Leanne getting healthy: But she is scared to death of ending up diabetic like her mom so is highly motivated to overcome them.

Healthy Brown-bag Lunches for Kids

When you are trying to eat healthily, boredom can set in for kids as well as adults. Involving your child in the selection of what goes in to their lunch bag is probably the best way to teach them what is healthy, and make sure you are giving them foods that they will actually eat.

Here are some suggestions of healthful foods to put in to their lunch bags:

 1)   Throw a boiled egg in to your kid’s lunch bag. This protein packed snack is fun to shell, (although you’ll need to do that in advance for younger children and put it in plastic wrap) and eat.

Hello!

Here we are about to air episode 6 of X-Weighted: Families. This week's show follows 12 year old latchkey kid Anthony, who spends his time home alone making bad food choices and getting little exercise. Anthony is bullied at school because of his size, and is already experiencing health complications because of it. This episode is a bit of a tear jerker!
