About the Show

About X-Weighted: Families
For three seasons, X-Weighted followed unique and courageous individuals on their precarious weight-loss journeys. The brave participants exposed all in their daily war on fat and their brutal honesty, openness and perseverance made for compelling and inspiring viewing. In season four, X-Weighted turned its focus on a Canadian epidemic - obese families, and season five continues to focus on families desperate to improve the health and well being of their children.
X-Weighted: Families is an eye-opening revelation of the critical issues contributing to a national obesity epidemic. We follow the journeys of a varied cross-section of courageous Canadian families coming to terms with their unhealthy reality.
As well as losing sleep about fitting in at school or their first kiss, obese kids are also worrying about diabetes, high blood pressure and depression. Each of the thirteen stand-alone episodes follows a different family in their struggle to effect positive change in their own lives and the lives of their children.
It documents the plans and pitfalls, dreams and delusions, failures and successes of these families as they go from fat to fit. Parents take responsibility for their bad choices, shut off game consoles, step away from buffets and fast food restaurants and drag their kids – kicking and screaming if necessary – into a healthy, active lifestyle. Heartbreaking, astonishing and occasionally shocking – X-Weighted: Families season five is the most compelling and inspiring season yet.
X-Weighted: Families premieres on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 8pm ET on Slice. The series’ regular time slot is Thursdays at 8pm ET.
X-Weighted: Families is produced by Anaïd Productions in association with Canwest Broadcasting, with the participation of the Canadian Media Fund, the assistance of the Alberta Film Development Program and The Canadian Film and Video Production Tax Credit Program and the participation of the Province of British Columbia Production Services Tax Credit and Rogers Telefund.
